Charleston was founded as Charles Town at Albemarle Point in 1670. Charles Town became English- speaking Americans first town to follow the visionary plan known as the “Grand Model”, prepared by John Locke. At the end of the revolution war in 1783 Charles Town adopted the name Charleston. Charleston is the oldest and largest city in South Carolina
